CARING FOR JESMONITE

ABOUT JESMONITE

Jesmonite is an eco -resin that combines natural minerals with water-based acrylics to form a versatile substance suitable for CRAFTING.

jESMONITE was developed in the 1980s as a more sustainable alternative to traditional resin-based materials. The composition of Jesmonite allows for endless possibilities in design, making it a popular choice for contemporary crafting. - THE OPTIONS ARE ENDLESS WHICH IS WHY WE LOVE IT SO MUCH FOR MAKING JEWELLERY AND HOMEWARE!

Creating Jesmonite products begins with mixing the Jesmonite powder with water and a special acrylic liquid to form a workable paste. The paste is then poured into molds, allowing it to cure and harden. Once cured, the pieces are removed from the molds and undergo additional finishing processes, such as sanding, polishing, and sealing. The finishing processes can be quite time consuming and laborious (lots of sanding!) but we think the finished product is worth the effort! FOR MORE INFORMATION CHECK OUT JESMONITE .

THE BENEFITS OF JESMONITE

DURABLE, LIGHTWEIGHT AND COLOURFUL

  • Jesmonite offers a wide range of colors, textures, and finishes, allowing us to create truly one-of-a-kind pieces. The material can be pigmented, marbled, or combined with other materials to achieve various visual effects. Our favourite process is creating Terrazzo effects, which involves adding cast jesmonite ‘chips’ into the mix, when the piece is sanding the chips reveal themselves, this means every piece we make is truly one of a kind! Any leftover waste is repurposed back into chips meaning a completely zero waste process!

  •  Lightweight and Comfortable:

Compared to traditional materials used for jewellery jesmonite is incredibly lightweight, making it comfortable to wear for extended periods. This characteristic is especially appealing for earrings, where comfort is crucial.

  • Durability and Versatility:

Jesmonite is impressively durable, withstanding everyday wear and tear. It is resistant to chipping, cracking, and discoloration, ensuring that it remains beautiful and intact for years to come.

  • Sustainable and Eco-Conscious Features of Jesmonite:

Reduced Environmental Impact: Jesmonite is a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional resin-based materials. It is water-based and free from solvents and VOCs (volatile organic compounds), minimizing the release of harmful emissions during the manufacturing process. The production of Jesmonite also requires less energy and generates less waste, contributing to a lower carbon footprint.Jesmonite incorporates natural minerals, such as gypsum and cement, which are abundant and widely available. These minerals are responsibly sourced, ensuring that extraction practices have minimal impact on the environment.

CARING FOR YOUR JESMONITE PIECES

THERE ARE SEVERAL WAYS TO CARE FOR YOUR EARRINGS TO ENSURE THEY STAY LOOKING BRIGHT, SHINY AND NEW!

  • DON’T WEAR YOUR JEWELLERY IN THE SHOWER, BATH OR SWIMMING POOL AND AVOID GETTING ANY COSMETIC SPRAYS, PERFUMES OR MAKEUP ON THEM. THIS ONE GOES WITHOUT SAYING BUT WATER, CHEMICALS AND CHLORINE WILL FADE YOUR JEWELLERY.

  • We seal our jesmonite with non- toxic BEESWAX sealants which adds a beautiful shine and makes them water resistant. HOWEVER BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR JESMONITE HOMEWARE AS WATER MAY STAIN THE PIECES AND THEY ARE NOT WATERPROOF. TO CLEAN SIMPLY WIPE WITH A SLIGHTLY DAMP CLOTH.

  • STORE YOUR JESMONITE PIECES SAFELY - DIRECT SUNLIGHT MAY FADE THE COLOURS OVER TIME. YOU CAN KEEP YOUR JEWELLERY IN THE COTTON BAG THE JEWLLERY CAME IN TO KEEP IT SAFE.

  • BE CAREFUL WITH ME! JESMONITE IS STRONG AND DURABLE, However we do advise that you treat your jesmonite with care as you would anything ceramic – it will break if you drop it!

  • GIVE ME A POLISH! NOTICE YOUR PIECES LOOKING A LITTLE DULL? GIVE THEM A QUICK POLISH WITH A MICROFIBRE CLOTH. FOR EXTRA LUSTRE YOU CAN ALSO USE A LITTLE BIT OF BEESWAX OR VASELINE (SOUNDS ODD I KNOW BUT IT WORKS!) AND BUFF INTO THE SURFACE. YOUR PIECES WILL LOOK GOOD AS NEW!
